Lumoo eSIM vs Airalo for Vietnam — install timing and coverage

Vietnam is one of the trickier eSIM markets because some plans are local eSIMs that only activate on arrival. Here's how Lumoo eSIM and Airalo compare on Vietnam plans, install experience, refunds, and support.

Summary

Coverage is the same on Vietnamese carriers (Viettel, Vinaphone, Mobifone). Lumoo eSIM labels local vs international plans clearly at checkout, prices in your local currency, and offers WhatsApp support. Airalo is app-first and priced in USD.

What is Lumoo eSIM

Lumoo eSIM (formerly Traverrsim) is a travel eSIM store built for Southeast Asian travellers. You pick a destination, pay in your local currency, and get a QR code plus a one-tap install link — no separate app account, no forced sign-up before checkout. Support is on WhatsApp in English, Malay, and Mandarin.

What is Airalo

Airalo is one of the largest travel eSIM marketplaces, with plans in 200+ countries and regions. Buying requires creating an Airalo account (email + password or SSO), and most travellers use the Airalo mobile app to install and manage eSIMs.

Pricing

Lumoo eSIM publishes one price per plan in your local currency (auto-detected, manually overridable) — no hidden card FX fee added at checkout beyond your bank's own conversion, and no post-purchase upsell between plan selection and payment. Airalo prices in USD by default; on non-USD cards, your bank applies its own FX rate on top. Neither provider guarantees an absolute speed — actual throughput depends on the underlying carrier and local congestion.

Buyer data protection

Payments on Lumoo eSIM are processed by Stripe; card details never touch our servers. We store only the email you provide for the receipt and the eSIM binding; we don't sell buyer data to third parties. Airalo similarly processes payments through PCI-DSS payment providers and publishes a privacy policy covering account, device, and usage data — review it directly for the specifics that matter to you.

Verdict

For Vietnam, install timing matters more than price — local eSIMs only activate on arrival. If your chosen provider doesn't state upfront whether a plan is local or international, ask before you buy. Lumoo eSIM spells this out on the plan; Airalo's app is fine if you already read the plan description carefully.
